Leigh Eric Schmidt Awarded NEH Fellowship

Leigh Eric Schmidt, Edward C. Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor at the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis was awarded a prestigious research fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Schmidt will receive $60,000 to support his project “A Religious History of American Secularism.”

Schmidt’s grant is among 84 fellowships awarded “to support college and university teachers and independent scholars pursuing advanced research,” according to the NEH announcement on December 12, 2018. In all, the NEH awarded $14.8 million in grants to support 253 humanities projects in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
